Michelle Ballantyne MSP, visited Peterhead, the largest white fish port in Europe to meet with North East fishermen and set out her plans to seize the “sea of opportunity.
Speaking with skippers Wayne Beagrie (budding Rose), Peter Bruce (lapwing) and John Buchan (Atlantic challenge) Mrs Ballantyne committed to delivering on the huge “sea of opportunity” for North East fishermen once the UK leaves the EU on Friday.
This includes Michelle Ballantyne’s plan for a new post-Brexit sector deal for the fishing industry to make sure it has all the support to boom.
Michelle Ballantyne MSP said:
“Like fishermen across the North East I voted to leave. I share their anger at the CFP and their hopes for a better future.
“The SNP have dogmatically refused to prepare our fishing industry and coastal communities to seize the opportunities of Brexit.
“The SNP would choose selling out our fishing industry to Brussels over allowing it to flourish outside of EU control.
“As the North East knows too well, it isn’t only the crews on the boats but the factories and towns that ebb and flow with the successes of the industry.
“A sector deal, like the deals signed off for the oil and gas industry and nuclear industry, will leverage in the government support to invest in our ports, our fish markets and help our processors to build up capacity to sell their product across the world.
